Mary Hogan
December 8, 1933 - August 4, 2018

Mary Elizabeth Whiteside Hogan entered paradise on August 4, 2018, after courageously battling Parkinson’s Disease for nearly 25 years. Family and husband of 64 years, Harold Hogan, surrounded her as she went to be with The Lord. Mary was born on December 8, 1933, in Sipe Springs, Texas, to Jim and Mamie Whiteside. Mary received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Texas Tech University where she was an active member in Kappa Kappa Gamma. While at Texas Tech, she met and married Harold, the love of her life. They moved to Tyler, Texas in 1980 and become active members at First Baptist Church of Tyler where she quickly rose to be president of the Woman’s Missionary Union. Mary was an accomplished china painter and past president of the East Texas Porcelain Painters Guild. She also taught science and math in Tyler and Tulsa public schools.
Of all her accomplishments, her greatest was her family. Mary is survived by her husband, Harold; brother Jerry and wife Shirley; her three children, Harold Jr. and wife Lisa; Denise and husband Dean Behrmann; and, James and wife Donna. Mary was blessed with five grandchildren: Don and wife Sara; Cullen; Matt and wife Sloane; Chris and wife Melody; and, Lauren Behrmann. Mary is also survived by her great-grandchild, Elizabeth Bryant, daughter of Don and Sara Hogan. Mary loved hosting family and friends through holiday celebrations, bridge games, and The Girls’ monthly birthday parties. Mary was an example of Christ’s unselfish love and spread joy to all who knew her - she will be dearly missed. As her husband says, “Mary would light up the room the moment she entered.”
Mary’s life will be remembered, honored, and celebrated by family and friends on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Tyler at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in tribute can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
