Memorial services for Barry Morrison, 61, Kilgore are scheduled for 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 13 at Van United Methodist Church. A second memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, July 20 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Montgomery, AL.
Mr. Morrison passed away on July 2, 2017 in Tyler.
He was born July 11, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama to Tommy and Lou Spurlock Morrison. He was a band director at Van Junior High and Van High School and then later served in the US Army. He lived in West Point, NY for 28 years and Van for 6 years. He had lived his last 2 years in Kilgore. He was retired from the US Military Academy Band as Principal Euphonium where he served as founding member of West Point Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble, principal euphonium of Hudson Valley Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Westchester County, NY, conductor of Rhinebeck Legion Band, Rhinebeck, NY, principal euphonium, Imperial Brass, NJ and a member of East Texas Symphonic Band.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Avis and Ralph Spurlock
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Jan Morrison of Kilgore; three children, Stefanie Morrison Austin and husband, Kenneth of Lewisport, KY, Christie Morrison Grimm and husband, Carl of Henderson, TX and Jeffrey Morrison of Kilgore, TX; mother, Lou Tatum of Tyler; brother Tony Morrison and wife, Ranee of Denham Springs, LA ; eight grandchildren, Haylee, Kyleigh, William and Jacob Grimm all of Henderson and Kenneth, Chloe, Carly, Keira Austin, all of Lewisport, KY; nieces, Holley and Emelie Morrison; nephews, Matthew and Alexander Morrison; and an aunt, Tommie Pugh of Prattville, AL.
