June 14, 1942 - September 4, 2018

Donna Rae Smith was born June 14, 1942 in Phillipsburg, Kansas and passed peacefully from this life on September 4, 2018 at the age of 76. She is preceded in death by her son Kenneth Eugene Smith, parents Clarence and Winifred Kendall, sisters Bessie Schumacher, Cleta Kendall, Connie Iverson, and Clara Kendall, and brother, Glenn Gerald Kendall. Mrs. Smith is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Roy Lee Smith, son, Roy Lee Smith, Jr, sister, Alice and husband George Searight, brother Wilbur and wife Carmen Kendall and sister-in-law, Vicky Kendall; and two grandsons, Nathanael Smith and Bradley Smith.
Donna was the third of eight children. Donna grew up with her siblings and attended school in Kansas. Although small in stature, she always had the ability to keep everybody in line. If the need arose she had the fastest flip flop in the west.
In 1957, Donna moved to Colorado with her family. In 1961 she meet Roy Lee at Fort Carson, Colorado. After one year of courtship the couple was married on March 4, 1962 and the newlyweds were quickly shipped off to Germany. As an Army wife, Donna was able to complete her education and spent some time working for the United States Government. With the birth of their oldest child, PeeWee, in 1963 Mrs. Smith became a homemaker. Shortly after this, the young family moved back state side. PeeWee was soon joined by a younger brother, Kenny. Donna was a stay at home mom until the boys started school. Soon she decided to join the boys and became the local school bus driver.
The Smith family had many adventures as they moved their family around the great west. Roy Lee and Donna always had room for extras. Many precious memories were made while traveling the country with their nieces and nephews in tow. Donna was a resident of Tyler, Texas and a member of Hosanna Full Gospel Church.
Donna will be greatly missed by her devoted husband and son and many other close family and friends.
Family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, at Hilliard Funeral Home, 386 N Maple St, Van, TX. Funeral services held by Pastor Gene Smith will begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Union Chapel Cemetery.
